Volunteers from the Denver, CO community smiled as they were introduced to Alsup Elementary
School first graders. They were joining the students on a special day: a Book Trust Book Celebration!
These classroom events celebrate the arrival of new books and include reading activities for
students.
Alsup Elementary first graders in Lindsay Mazzeo’s class recently browsed book options provided by
Book Trust and selected new reading material to add to their personal libraries. The books recently
arrived at the school and the volunteers helped to distribute them to students on this sunny
Tuesday. Students were excited to share their selections with the volunteers, their classmates, and
family members at home.
Popular new books included I Spy Fly Guy by Ted Arnold and The Good Egg by Jory John. Reading
commenced in pairs and small groups with discussions and giggles along the way.
“We want students to become excited about reading, we don’t want it to be a chore,” said Lindsay
Mazzeo, a teacher at Alsup Elementary School. “Book Trust makes reading fun and sparks joy and
motivation in the students.”
